I am building a new computer. Here is my question...
Is it possible to run dual video cards with a Micro ATX case? I am thinking that the only issue that would come up would be size related. Is there a large selection (if any) of Micro ATX motherboards that support dual video cards? If so would this fit inside of such a small case?
Also...to make things even more complicated, I really would like this system to be liquid cooled however I could imagine that this would make the size issue even worse. I know I could go for a Mid / Full ATX case and have no problem with this, however I think it would be awesome to have everything in such a tiny package.
So basically I want a Micro ATX, Dual video cards, AND Liquid cooling. If anyone can direct me to a motherboard/case or both that would be compatible with this it would be much appreciated.
Another issue I can see arising is the power supply. Since Micro ATX power supplies are smaller, they have a lower wattage. I have seen external power supplies and may have to resort to this in order to get the required amount of power.
Either way, if anyone has any suggestions for how I may achieve the things above that would be excellent and I will be sure to give the best answer points to you. Thanks so much.Computer question - Micro ATX Cases + SLI?
Hi
Its possible to run SLI in a Micro ATX case, but if you add Liquid Cooling, then I have no idea.
Here are Common problems with SLI in Micro ATX cases
-Overheating (cramped space leads to very poor airflow, liquid cooling will fix this situation)
-Video Cards are so big nowadays that they usually cover the expansion slots of PCI, memory, SATA (depending on motherboard layout) so if its on a micro ATX.. chances are it will cover something you need.
- The Selection of Micro ATX Motherboards that support SLI are very limited. Here are two good ones: (Note they require a Intel i7 Processor and DDR3 Triple Channel Memory)- Which means you'll need to have around 1,500 dollars to spend/invest. (on top of that.. your liquid cooling system)

Case: I suggest getting a Antec Mini P180 Case. It is a very popular Micro ATX Case. It seems to have enough room. (replace a couple of the case fans, with aftermarket ones that have Higher CFM to go along with your liquid cooling, to ensure protection from overheating)
Power Supply: Any Standard Power Supply should work. You'll need at least a 750 or a 800 Watt to ensure SLI power and Stability. Maybe a higher Wattage, depending on what Video Card you get to put in SLI. Make sure there are enough AMPs on the 12V rail to provide efficient power to the video Cards.
Hope That Helps
and Good Luck on your interesting mini build hehe.
