Can I rip out my Dell XPS Dimension 5 and use a new ATX case? I noticed the power/led pins are different.?

My Dell case fell apart so I decided to use an ATX case I had laying around. I haven't yet tried to install the hardware because the power/led/hDDled/Rest SW are different from the motherboard. Can this be done or am I unlucky and have to resort to dell Cases? Can I rip out my Dell XPS Dimension 5 and use a new ATX case? I noticed the power/led pins are different.?
I'm pretty sure it's a proprietary BTX design. If so, a transplant isn't in the cards. Can I rip out my Dell XPS Dimension 5 and use a new ATX case? I noticed the power/led pins are different.?
You can use the case. I have done exactly that. You may find that the board headers (the little pins sticking out of the motherboard) for HDD activity, power switch etc are not suited for the cables attached to these in the case, but if you use a very sharp pair of scissors you can cut the cable terminators into seperate individual pins and then attach them to the motherboard using a small pair of long-nose pliers or medical forceps.

It worked fine for me!

One thing: ALWAYS label each individual cable when you do this (ie Pwr LED +ve, Pwr LED -ve etc). It's easy to lose track of which is which.

Good luck with your rebuild.
nope :( because it is DELL
