There are a bunch of folks out there doing what is known as ';case modding';--most of them start with a commercially-available case, then rework it to suit their fancy (and some get pretty fancy). Some go a step (or more) deeper to start with basic parts and practically scratch-build a case. Most of what they need, they get at a hardware store (for example, a high-quality doorbell button makes a good power button). Here's a couple of links to get you started...
