If I were to get an ATX computer case do I need to have a ATX mother board???

YesIf I were to get an ATX computer case do I need to have a ATX mother board???
';A full size ATX board is 12'; wide by 9.6'; deep (305 mm x 244 mm). This allows many ATX form factor chassis to accept microATX boards as well.';

Basically you can ATX or MicroATX in the vast majority of ATX compatible cases. In fact in today's computing world, its quite difficult to find any other form factored mother boardIf I were to get an ATX computer case do I need to have a ATX mother board???
actually to all you people who said yes thumbs down to you almost every single ATX full sized case support BOTH micro atx and regular atx but if i were you id go with atx espically if its for gaming
Yes you do because the motherboard is designed to be in one of these cases and if you get an AT Case and stick an ATX motherboard in it you would find it does not fit its like giving an car insides a body of a double decker bus!

Can I use MicroATX Motherboard in ATX computer case..?

Hi I am planing to build one high performance PC. I found this combo deal on newegg.com

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.239577

But I am having problem to finding a proper case for this combo.

Can any one tell me that can I use ATX case to fit Micro ATX motherboards in.??

Thank You.Can I use MicroATX Motherboard in ATX computer case..?
Yes thats no problem they use 9 of the same 12 screws. It's the other way around that doesn't work obviously. Can I use MicroATX Motherboard in ATX computer case..?
Yes, you can fit micro atx in 99% of standard ATX cases, and if its one where you cant, read the reviews on the case before you buy it, and it will definitely be in there!. no worries.

  • Is my computer's case ATX or Micro-ATX?

nether, the switched position of the expansion slots and motherboard's ports show that it uses a btx form factor motherboard. Is my computer's case ATX or Micro-ATX?
Neither... HP doesn't follow the ATX standard when it comes to cases.

Can I put a micro atx motherboard into a desktop case?

You can make anything fit with a drill and a dremel tool. you may need to make a custom back plate for the ports and jacks as most desktop cases were for AT boards and they usually had cables that ran from the jacks to the motherboard. Hence, unless you have a rare ATX desktop case, you will need to change the power supply as well, as the conectors are different. Can I put a micro atx motherboard into a desktop case?
only if the case supports it.Can I put a micro atx motherboard into a desktop case?
it wont fit correctly .. but u could make it work with alittle modification ... http://images.google.com/images?client=f鈥?/a>
Yes it will work fine. Desktop cases usually support a atx motherboard. A micro atx is just the same motherboard with less slots (shorter), nothing more, rest of it is the same.

Just make sure it is a atx deskop not an old at desktop (one hole on the back and slots).
well yes but it wont realy work
Yes, as long as the its a standard ATX computer case, it has the hole pre-made for micro ATX boards as well.
if you do this you are limiting your expansion options if you don't need to expand a local computer fair will charge 拢20 to 拢25 for a case.

    hope this helps
not really,,, most desktop cases have risers and the back of the comp usually is not made for a backplate , like a tower is ,, but if you can rig it to fit ,, sure you can,, you just have to make sure your board has proper placement so your cpu and hs and fan can ventilate properly,,,

Would it be possible to move components of a Dell Optiplex GX280 Small Desktop to a regular atx case?

Here is a page with all the details about my computer:

Also my motherboard model # is 0N4846, Dell of course. Any help would be appreciated. I'm trying to upgrade everything for a little gaming. I've got 4gigs of ram on the way, maybe overkill, but i don't care. I want to upgrade video card without having to choose a low profile card. And also any suggestions on a card would be appreciated. Thanks!Would it be possible to move components of a Dell Optiplex GX280 Small Desktop to a regular atx case?
Generally no as dell uses proprietary mounting and a desktop motherboard has special arrangements to fit the lot profile cards and stuff, and thus is different from the tower form. That said, if you pick up a dell tower case, it might work. At this time the GX280 is pretty outdated, so I would not try and put (money)(time) into it and just upgrade. The Inspiron 531 Desktop (yeah, keep it simple dell! don't mix it up... pfft inspiron desktop, anyway...) is a nice option. It's a full tower with an AMD Dual Core CPU with a PCI-Express slot so you can use a modern graphics card rather than pay more for one on the Obsolete agp format, and can be gotten on ebay for like $200.

All dell's have XP key for Dell XP in the bios so you are good for OS. Also AMD dual cores are the way to go unless you overclock, as they offer similar performance to Intels at lower prices.

Sorry I just looked at an image of your motherboard: if you can find like a dell tower case for an Optiplex 230, I think you should be able to put it in easily. Must be a different model where the board bends sideways. My Dad works for a college and brings home their junked computers, and I see a lot of Dell's (not because they are bad, it's just what they use).Would it be possible to move components of a Dell Optiplex GX280 Small Desktop to a regular atx case?
No. That's a proprietory board and can't be used in a normal case. Main reason is the ribbon cable the board uses to feed the front of the case. It's #6 on the orange schematic your link shows. A standard case doesn't use that type of setup. If you want to do some mild gaming I suggest you just buy a low-profile video card for your present case. Here's an example:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as鈥?/a>

Something to bear in mind is that, althou this card includes the low-profile bracket, most don't so, if you buy one that doesn't you'll have to buy the bracket separately. You simply replace the bracket on the card with the low-profile bracket so it can run in your case. There are also 8600GT low profile video cards if you're an Nvidia fan.

the best answer i could give you is most likely you will have no real problems, maybe a few minor ones you can work around.

the biggest problems are going to be hooking up the on/off button and lights

also the panel in the back where all the ps/2 ports and usb ports are you will probably not be able to have the tin IO shield around it as the dell one isnt removeable and the one the case comes with will not match your motherboard design.

In the end it probably wouldnt be worth the headache to do it but if you enjoy a project you can try it.

yeah, i too have the antec 900 case and an 8800GTS. An 8800Ultra or Gtx might not fit unless you take out the middle fan thing.
    Maybe.

A number of reviews mention clearance problems with the video card in the #1 slot and the case, especially if it has a top connector on the video card, which the 8800 and all gaming cards have.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis鈥?/a>

The reason for the top power connector is because the cards power requirements exceed to PCI express X16 slot maximum power specification.

If you use it in SLI mode it will also have a SLI cable attached to the top of both cards.

Read your case manual and find out whether or not you are supposed to be using standoffs. Most cases do need standoffs, some do not.

And yes, the 9800GTX+ will fit on your motherboard, and should fit in the case if the motherboard is properly mounted.

However, why use an nVidia video card when you have an ATI Crossfire motherboard?

If you use an ATI Video card, you will have the future option of adding a second card to run in Crossfire mode. You cannot run two nVidia video cards in SLI on a Crossfire motherboard.

Yes it will fit. Personally I wouldn't recommend this case because of how small it is. I realize that is why you want to purchase it but smallness isn't always best. Your computer will be hotter. Depending on what you are running, this may be a horrific case. Keep in mind that is may overheat. I wouldn't worry about it if you are just doing basic programs. Also, I'm not sure if you have an after stock heatsink for your cpu, but some afterstock heatsinks may not fit. I know mine is very tall and may not fit in that case. Will all my computer components fit inside the Antec NSK248 micro ATX case?
It'll fit, but will be tight.

I have an HP A1540n Motherboard transplanted into a new ATX case, I need to know the audio pinouts?

My son has an HP A1540N Desktop, I upgraded him to Windows 7 but he needed a new case and power supply as the old one wasn't compatible. I transplanted everything except the front audio and microphone jacks. I searched HP and the Internet looking for the motherboard pinouts and settings. The ATX case has like separate pin jacks while the A1540N case had all pins in one plug. Which separate pins go where in the motherboard? I don't want to make the wrong connection and short out the audio system. Any help?I have an HP A1540n Motherboard transplanted into a new ATX case, I need to know the audio pinouts?
Well I would show you some pictures of where the pins should go, but the easy way is to compare the pinouts to the pins. Basically the audio pinouts would only fit in one type of pin. Look at your pinout and see how the holes in it arrange. Now look at some of the pins located on the motherboard with the same arrangement as your pinout has. If it fits, then its good.I have an HP A1540n Motherboard transplanted into a new ATX case, I need to know the audio pinouts?
Looking at the the connector of the old case follow the color codes of the wiring to determine how to connect the new front panel.

Note there will be a small arrow to designate pin1 on the connector and a marking to indicate pin1 on the motherboard

Gigaybyte Motherboard, G31, E7400, 4GB DDR2 RAM, 320GB HDD and ATX Case Deal questions?

I'm planning to purchase new PC I did some shoping in jordan and I have some questions, please respond even if you don't have answers to all the questions, thank you for taking the time,

First of all, Here is the parts I am considering to buy:

    1. E7400 Intel Core2 Duo Processor

    2. Gigabyte Motherboard G31 Intel Chipset

    3. 4GB DDR2 667

    4. ATX P4 Case

The above will cost me around 387$, I Intend to use on-board graphics and sound and ethernet, since I don't need high-end 3D performance as I don't play Games.

Secondly, this is what I Intend to do with my computer:

    1. Play movies and audo

    2. Video editing

    3. Video encoding

    4. Office or other productivity

    5. Multi-task a lot, like listening to music, while downloading files or burning or encoding at the same time.

    My questions are the following:

    1. Will I be able to play 720p and 1080p video efficiantly?

    2. Do you think 387$ is a lot to pay for these parts?

    3. If i down-grade the processor to E5200, I will save 49$ do you think that is a good or bad cost saving considering what performance I will loose and the things I want to use my computer for? I can't find any performance charts comparing the E5200 to E7400 so I don't know how much performance I am going to loose with the E5200 if you have some reviews with performance tests please give me a link.

    4. I need some price comparasions between E7400, E6850 and E8000 series

    5. I read on intel's site, that G31 supports HDMI output, but when I asked my vendor who uses Elite and Gigabyte motherboards and ATX P4 Case, that there is no HDMI interface with this motherboard or case, how can i get HDMI support do I have to use a difirent motherboard manufactorer or a difirence case?

    6. Does Graphic Media Accelerator x310 which comes with the G31 chipset support a resolution of 1366 x 768? this is so I can hock up my Graphic output to the Sharp Aquos LC-42PX5M to view moviesGigaybyte Motherboard, G31, E7400, 4GB DDR2 RAM, 320GB HDD and ATX Case Deal questions?
    1. Yes you will be able to very easily

    2. Try shopping around a bit. I would try http://www.newegg.com myself

    3. I would not recommend downgrading. Here is a good deal for the E7400 on newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115206%26amp;Tpk=e7400]

    4. Again, newegg has a great utility for this.

    5. Try shopping around, and I know it seems like I keep touting newegg unrealistically, but......

    6. That is a definite non-standard resolution, so it seems unlikely but that is just a guess.

Good Choice. I'd say you pretty much nailed it. AMD X2 6000's a good deal for gaming and media editing.

Two things though, 1. AMD is coming out with their quad core family soon. Might want to hold on for that. And 2. Your video card is not Dx10-compliant, if you want that feature.

    Happy hunting and good buying.

Will a micro ATX motherboard fit In a old Atx case?

My atx case is ... Well I really don't know if it's old or not but it is an atx case. I'm mostly worried about how all the ports from the back of the micro will fit in the back of the case alright... Will it work? Also will a micro atx motherboard preform just as good as a reg atx? I wanted to get a Matx mobo to replace my old mono and processor. could someone just give me the dimensions of a microatx? Thanks!!Will a micro ATX motherboard fit In a old Atx case?
microATX, also known as 碌ATX (sometimes transliterated as mATX[1] or uATX[2][3] on internet forums) is a small form factor standard for motherboards that was introduced in December of 1997.[4] The maximum size of a microATX motherboard is 9.6 inches x 9.6 inches (244 mm x 244 mm), but some microATX boards can be as small as 6.75 inches by 6.75 inches (171.45 mm x 171.45 mm)[5]. The standard ATX size is 25% longer, at 305 mm 脳 244 mm (12'; wide x 9.6'; deep)Will a micro ATX motherboard fit In a old Atx case?
most atx case should fit a micro atx.

micro atx is like a regular atx but with fewer features so it would be smaller than an atx mobo. (therefore cheaper)

dimensions may differ from matx to matx. so look for a good matx you might want to buy and it should say the exact specs on certain websites. for example newegg.com will more likely have the info than buy.com

Also you can look up your case screw holes dimensions online.
The board is smaller, but not by much. Sorry I don't have dimensions but the mounting holes and connectors will all be in the same place.
    yes... with about 90% accuracy.

micro atx is a division of the atx standard and as such should have the screw holes in all the correct places

You might want to go with a modular power supply. The cables are usually flat and less obvious, and because it's modular, you only use the cables you need and throw the rest back in the box.

A large case that supports a lot of fans.

I got the Thermaltake ArmorPlus VA8000 case, and it caught me by surprise. I had never imagined any case could be so awesome and convenient.

It has a huge fan (about 250mm), and 2 120mm fans, plus you can add up to 4 more 120mm's. It's really easy to install things, a tool free installation almost exclusively.

The gear you have there takes up a lot of room, but the motherboard tray slides out the back of this case, so you can put everything on without any tight spaces and slide it back in.

But why on earth would you need GTX 280's in SLI??? =O

That almost costs as much as my entire pc!

Good luck and don't forget a power supply (you need at least 800w for that beast)What ATX case would work with these components for a computer I'm building?
Just about any full tower computer case will work, but MAKE SURE it's a full tower, no mid tower, not small tower, no desktop. FULL TOWER.

Also, if you're going to run dual GPU's, make sure you've got plenty of cooling, theres a company called Scythe USA that makes a 120mm fan that flows almost 131 cubic feet of air per minute (double what a normal 120mm fan does). Granted, it sounds like a jet engine taking off, but it'll help keep the computer cool.

Dig around the front of your case. You absolutely need your power connector or else you won't be able to boot your computer. The rest really don't matter.

Trace the other wires back to where they enter from the front. If you don't see your power wire coming out of the same area, you might need to take the front off your case to get a better look.

Yeah; you might have to drill a hole or two (but maybe not). It will certainly fit. I've got an Intel BOXD945GCLF; it's cool. The biggest stuff on it is all of the standard legacy ports and connectors as pictured. Fits the standard case back I/O slot. Comes with one of its own that would pop into a standard case. I don't know about the hole pattern on the Logisys case. Some have them some don't. The smaller case I got for mine had mATX and Mini-ITX. Full ATX cases almost ALWAYS have mATX hole patterns, some Mini-ITX too.

    At & atx casing?

how to know the differences between at %26amp; atx computer casingAt %26amp; atx casing?
AT casing came out with the original IBM AT in 1984, and was obsoleted by Intel's ATX casing, power, and motherboard specifications n 1997. AT cases died out towards the end of Pentium 1's heyday, and you can recognize them by having a BIG red throwswitch (or cutout) on the side for toggling the power supply. Otherwise, little immediately distinguishes them. An ATX case looks pretty much like an AT case, but is newer. The only way to really distinguish besides the cutout for a switch is the location of motherboard standing mounts, as BabyAT boards have different dimensions that ATX boards.

Green is positive, white is negative. You will not hurt anything by plugging it into the wrong spot, it is just a switch (no power). All switches are two wires, but a few have an empty spacer so that it looks like three pins are used. Most mother boards will accept the negative on pin 2 or 3, so give err a try.Help with atx case l.e.d.s, power_Led...Needs as much help as I can get cheers?
Have a look at the book that came with your motherboard, the coloured wires are the clue.
Consult your motherboard documentation. The white wire is usually negative. My guess based on the info you've posted here is that the first + is for the power switch, and the +- is for the power LED.

White is negative and the color is positive. Sometimes the case will have a 3 pin plug (middle not used) and sometimes they have 2 pin plug, so that is why you will see 3 pins on the motherboard.

From memory the LED only works on 1.3V so you won't damage anything by connecting it wrong, so just give it ago and if it doesn't work try it around the other way.

  • Putting mATX in ATX Case?

will i need certain screws or what?

just want to know if i can put the mobo in it.Putting mATX in ATX Case?
microATX is a new motherboard form factor designed to meet new market trends and PC technologies. Lower system cost is the main driving force for the new form factor. The size of the form factor allows for smaller chassis, motherboard, and power supply, thus reducing the cost of entire system. The microATX form factor is also backward-compatible with the ATX form factor with some modifications.

It will fit, no certain screws.Putting mATX in ATX Case?
The difference between ATX and microATX is the position of the screws that hold the board to the case, they aren't the same configuration. Look under the Specification tab in Motherboard Compatibility, it only lists ATX. That means only an ATX motherboard will work in it.

If you look at other cases, like this one:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as鈥?/a>

it says you can use ATX, microATX and BABY AT motherboards.

Swapping over to new atx case.?

i bought a new atx case today and tried to transfer my old components to it. i connected everything (it seemed) but after switching it on it gets stuck at the ';tab for post bios'; motherboard screen. anyone know how to fis this?Swapping over to new atx case.?
    Hey Dude,

I would make sure first that you do not have any ';extra'; metal posts sticking up from the case, shorting out the motherboard. VERY Common for the do-it-yourself project.

The next thing I would do is pull out everything again and stick it back into your old computer.....UGH! I know. But it will tell you if you are chasing your tail. Sometimes, many times, things work just fine in the old box. You take it out, rattle it around, and suddenly it doesn't work anymore. Hard drives can be VERY finiky like that. Even moving it from horizontal to vertical can do it.

Your error is a bit strange though. Try the short thing. And most of all, make sure you have the power on the motherboard on correctly. Both plugs!

TomSwapping over to new atx case.?
Not without knowing all of the components you used. You'll need to check your motherboard manual.

';Tab for post BIOS'; is not a recognised term.
Check to see that your RAM is correctly inserted. If that isn't it, check to see if your hard drive power is attached. Then check to see if your hard drive ribbon cable is plugged in correctly. I assume you have power to the motherboard, but check that connection also.
Throw through window make you fell better if nothing else
check to make sure everything is seated properly. then restart.

Did you use protection???? ESD that is. (electrostatic discharge) can kill a cpu or RAM pronto!

Have you push the tab bar when it says ';tab for post bios';? If you can get to bios setup choose ';optimal settings'; and then save and exit bios.

    Did you add anything new?
Since your question is generic, I'll give you a generic response:

Disconnect everything, and one by one, connect a component to the motherboard and turn it on. (i.e. Motherboard and hard drive only.... works... now add the CD-ROM... works.... now add the RAM....failed).

Try it out, it worked for me.

There are a couple different kinds of wireless remotes, IR and RF.

IR remotes (infrared) need line of site to operate, and usually the signal can't penetrate through walls. (So, like you're TV remote, you have to point it at the TV and you have to be in the same room as it, close enough to it)

RF (radio frequency) remotes can be pointed just about anywhere and depending on how strong it is, it can go through walls and such, (BlueTooth is a good example of this)

The advantage of having and IR remote is that IR can be programmed into your existing universal remote (if it's a ';learning'; remote), RF (like bluetooth) cannot, (yet).

Here are some highly rated HTPC cases ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis鈥?/a> )

Although I don't see the point in spending $100+ on a special case when you can just use a regular old PC case just as well (in fact, it's the exact same thing, just formed differently to fit on a media shelf).

As for getting a case with a remote: I'm honestly not even sure HOW the remote control actually works. Do you have to install software on the HTPC? What do you have to do to hook the panel wires of the case to the motherboard, and where do they go? That requires more research on my end I suppose.

You can get a nice fancy one with front panel LED display and remote:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as鈥?/a>

or (my approach) get one that's simplistic but works just as well and wins in the design category (K.I.S.S.):

Does this motherboard require ATX or Extended ATX case?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131374Does this motherboard require ATX or Extended ATX case?
This is a server motherboard you need a full ATX towerDoes this motherboard require ATX or Extended ATX case?
Intel has also specified a ';Mini ATX'; motherboard size, which is slightly smaller than the full-sized ATX specification. These boards use the same ATX form factor power supplies and cases. The main difference is that full ATX motherboards have a maximum size of 12';x9.6';, and Mini ATX boards have maximum dimensions of 11.2';x8.2';.

High-end models used in performance workstations or servers, that use the ';Extended ATX'; form factor, also sometimes called ';EATX';. This form factor is essentially the same as ATX, except that the board can be up to 12';x13'; in size. These boards are uncommon, and the Extended ATX form factor is likely to receive significant competition from the new WTX form factor, which was designed especially for workstations. The larger motherboard size means that special

    ';Extended ATX cases are generally required';

The different form factors in the ATX family are similar, and the biggest differences between motherboards of different ATX-style form factors are dimensions, and the placement of mounting holes. This means that most cases are ';downward compatible'; with the smaller ATX variants, as long as they have provided appropriate sets of places to put mounting hardware. If a case will support installation of a full-sized ATX motherboard, it may also support a Mini ATX, microATX or FlexATX board as long as the designers of the case have taken the smaller form factor variants into consideration.
That is a server board and because of the dual socket design would definitely require a large case mainly due to how wide it is.

    Dimensions 12.0'; x 13.0';

Need atleast 13'; of clearance between the back side of the case and anything at the front.

Extended ATX. That board is 12.0'; x 13.0'; inches, where the standard ATX form factor is 12 脳 9.6

Not surprising, since that's a dual CPU board.Does this motherboard require ATX or Extended ATX case?
i've never heard of extended. only MicoATX, ATX, and BTX form factors. i would go with a computer case that accepts either a micro or full ATX motherboard. can't go wrong with those.

i have one of these that are really good. Cooler Master.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as鈥?/a>
The motherboard you mention, is 12'; X 13';. It would definitely fit most comfortably in an ATX full or mid case, but it would also fit into an ATX mini tower with adequate ventilation.
That's a server board so yes its EATX the board is 12'; x 13'; soy you need a case like ..http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as鈥?/a> at the spec for board compatibility.
it would be a extended ATX case of Full Case...

    HTPC ATX Case Suggestions?

can someone give me some suggestions on a GOOD htpc case? preferably with a remote. And could someone explain to me what a IR htpc case , and IR remote is? im new to this htpc stuff and im looking to learn more about it so that i can build one in the very near future lol. ANY opinions, suggestions etc will be appreciatedHTPC ATX Case Suggestions?

You can get a nice fancy one with front panel LED display and remote:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as鈥?/a>

or (my approach) get one that's simplistic but works just as well and wins in the design category (K.I.S.S.):

i have the motherboard and am wondering if a mid-atx case will fit as the one im looking at is very niceWill an atx motherboard fit in a mid-atx case?
ATX will fit. Mid-ATX just means the case is a mid size and not a mini or a full. ATX is the form factor standard the Mobo manufacturers use for the screw pattern. Just make sure it isn't a micro ATX board unless the case specifically says it will also support that form factor. Will an atx motherboard fit in a mid-atx case?
Depends, do you have a link? Usually Mid Tower cases can fit ATX and Micro ATX.
yes it should..mid tower and full tower will be fine. Mini towers are for Micro-atx boards

Plug the PC directly into the wall socket and verify that it works ok before plugging anything else into the PC. Auxiliary AC outlets on your PC shouldn't limit the PC's power supply capability to power your motherboard and internal peripherals. However, the PC's AC cord is limited to a maximum current rating, so you should not exceed the Auxiliary AC outlet maximum current specified in your PC manual. Is there a problem if my power supply(atx case) is 400watts and my avr is 250 watts? my pc can't open?

First of all in a microATX a 8800GTS will be fried by the heat; plus the fact that a case that size will not be capable of accepting a more powerful power source - it's simply too small for it.

yesCan a micro atx psu fit in a atx case?
ATX: 6x3.5x5.5';, HxWxD. Most common. Uses 4 mounting screws.

    # Mini-ATX: 5x3.5x5';, HxWxD. Rare size. Uses 4 mounting screws. Can be used in a regular ATX case, but often not the other way around.

    # MicroATX: 5x3x4';, HxWxD. Use 3 mounting screws. Not interchangeable with ATX or miniATX.

    # Flex ATX: Even smaller than Micro ATX. Various sizes according to case specs; often not interchangeable.

Although you cannot put it in by just screwing it in, you could try building a custom enclosure for it or something? cause you seem to know the insides of the computer, atleast research this option :), hope I helped!
Generally aftermarket cases such as micro atx cases will utilize a standard ATX power supply. The smaller ATX power supplies are usually proprietary to computer manufacturers such as Dell or HP. If you are buying an after market case you are better off purchasing a std size power supply anyway.

When you buy a motherboard you have the option of buying a form factor style. For motherboard that use Intel processors newegg.com lists

    ATX : 182 types

    Micro ATX: 114 types

Other form factors: 10 or less types for each

ATX motherboards are preferred over Micro ATX and other form factors for motherboards as they are more common giving you more choices and have more slots for future upgrades.

    For a motherboard I recommend:

    ATX style not Micro ATX

One that has 2 ea. PCI express x16 slots

(some dual slot cheap ones are wired internally as x8, avoid)

    1000 MHz FSB or faster

    8 channel integrated audio

Support 8GB or more of dual channel ram

Assuming you have a ATX motherboard I recommend an ATX Mid Tower. If you are going to have more than 2 internal hard drives get a full tower case. Avoid the ATX Mini Tower as these sometimes have problems with air flow for cooling fitting components in it, especially between a high performance video card and the power supply.

Some cases include a power supply. Most of the cases that include power supply often include a poor quality powor supply that is underpowered for todays video cards and should only be considered if you are trying to build a very inexpensive (budget) system.

I prefer a plain solid case without plastic windows and plastic doors over the removable drives. Most games prefer the exact opposite, the most extreme looking case available, sometimes internally lighted, lighted round cables with see through case windows, and more.

no reason why not... unless Dell decided to mess with the motherboard... big-picture it should work, but you might have small problems like mobo setup, connecting power button/LEDs/USBs... your back panel might also not fit properly (you know the thing that covers your mouse/keyboard/ethernet/USB sockets in the back) but worst case scenario you dont really NEED it to be there... its nice to have it to stop the dust from getting in but I guess the flip side is that it will improve your cooling ;)

you'll have to download the manual for both mother boards and each one will tell you which pins are what, I know it's not much help but it's how I did it.
that depends is it a mid or micro case?
any motherboard can be installed in all cases, unless they specifically say so, casing generally have slots so that any motherboard can fit. make sure ure motherboard is secured

I am switching from a dell computer case to a atx mid case, what is different?

possibly the mounting screw locations on the mobo in relation to the case. also you will want to determine the dimensions of the board to see if it will fit properly. oh, make sure you use the spacers between the case and the board otherwise it will fry your motherboard upon boot up. good luck.

I am looking to build a new computer and I want to get an affortable ATX case that looks good.........?

but works great and is reliable. Whats a good brand? I have been looking on Newegg.com but I am still not sure what to buy.I am looking to build a new computer and I want to get an affortable ATX case that looks good.........?
Stick with newegg. I guess it depends on your budget. Some people call budget $50 or less. I do have to say with the $100 range you get solid, well designed cases. I have used $20 specials that are fine, I also have an antec P180 that is around $100. I don't mind the cheaper cases but this will be pretty much a case that made to be cheap, you'll be lucky to get anything other than the basics, and that's great for a lot of people, I only used cheaper cases for a long long time. I really love my antec however. It is heavy, well built, came with 3 120mm fans that are quiet, so silent I had to check twice to make sure the system was running. It's a well thought out design, has tool less design and is built for silence.

It's not for everybody though. If I had a better idea of your budget I could help you out more. You are on the right track with newegg. Use the reader reviews.I am looking to build a new computer and I want to get an affortable ATX case that looks good.........?

If I get a Micro ATX sized mother board, do I have to get a micro atx computer case?

It probably sounds like a dumb question, but it really frustrates me because all of the mother boards with HD3200 graphics built in, are micro-atx. The only problem I have with a micro atx, is that if I have to get a micro atx computer case, and with that I don't have as many drive bays as I would like. This is my first computer build and I want to get it right.

Dell Inspiron 531 into a new ATX case.?

Im interested in making my pc look a bit better although im quite new to pc building etc. Im after buying the ATX jet turbine case from maplin and wondered if its possible to use all my existing dell inspiron 531 componenets and swap them into the new case. This would include power supply too.

ThanksDell Inspiron 531 into a new ATX case.?
It appears as though the motherboard in the Dell Inspiron 531 is a standard micro-ATX form factor layout. You should be able to remove it and put it in any case that supports the micro-ATX form factor. Most of the other components should also be able to be moved into a new case (RAM, CD/DVD drive, graphics card, hard drive, CPU, etc...).

About the only component I am hesitant to say you can move is the power supply. I have a sneaking suspicion that Dell uses a proprietary power supply configuration (usually size). I believe Dell power supplies are not of a standard size. This is usually the case. That said, give it a try. Your computer may buck the trend. If worse comes to worst, and the power supply doesn't fit, you can pick up power supplies at fairly reasonable prices.

I hope this helps. If you have more questions, please add more details to this question, or feel to email me through my Yahoo! Answers profile.

http://us.acer.com/acereuro/page4.do?sp=鈥?/a>I want to know if i have an ATX case or if i can upgrade my power supply for my computer?
By the looks of it it is an ATX, so yes you can get a new power supply. However, I would disregard what the first guy said about spending 20-30 dollars at most on a 500W power supply, spend at least 60 so that you get a quality part that won't fail on you in a few months.I want to know if i have an ATX case or if i can upgrade my power supply for my computer?
Unless your computer is really old, then there is a 99% chance you have an ATX case and power supply. If you a new machine like a P4 then your power supply would be ATX 12 volts. Another sign of an ATX case is if the Mouse, Keyboard, parallel printer port, speaker and mike jack are all on one panel at the back
Computers can take only so many watts. It depends on what you have. If you have a 500 watt power supplyfor example . get same (500)or little more watts. Never get under watts you have now.Shop around on ebay you can get them very cheap. Spend 20-30 at most. Hope this helps you!! Be sure to get a ATX supply not an AT supply

    A+ Student in high tech
open it up and look inside, if the power cable goes from the switch in the front to the power supply then you have an at power supply. the switch in the front goes to the main board witch is easy to tell, then its a atx.if its like the system in the pic, then it is def.a atx.

    Reuse an ATX casing?

I'll be upgrading my PC and I've been considering what to do with my old CPU casing since I'll be replacing everything inside it. My old motherboard was an Asus ATX board, but I'll be using a microATX-size board once I upgrade. From what I've been told, the new processor I'm planning to mount will require a 500W PSU. Can I still reuse my casing if I just change the PSU?Reuse an ATX casing?
No you will not need to replace the case, it will work fine. Now as for who told you that you needed a 500W PSU for a processor, they are very very wrong. Perhaps if you are running a high end video card you need that much, but no processor needs anywhere near that much power.Reuse an ATX casing?
    Should be fine.
Yes, micro ATX is smaller than a ATX mobo, you will have more room to work around.
The one thing I have not replaced in 10 years is my case. It's a giant full tower and my new Asus MoBo looks puny compared to the original MoBo I had for Win95.

Asus is known for making great MoBos that can be easily adapted to fit anywhere.

From what I have read, Windows Vista is going to be a power hog, and I've heard that my 450watt PS may not be enough! Can you imagine? My PC will use more juice then 5 100 watt lightbulbs!

It used to be that the monitor was the hog, now it's the OS!!

    ATX means it will fit.

Cooling and air flow are going to be your biggest issues though.

Yes, it is a micro atx, and if the case supports micro atx motherboards, then you are good to go.Is the motherboard in my computer a micro atx motherboard and if so can it fit in a bigger case?
A7V8X-LA is indeed a micro ATX motherboard most of the time a regular mATX will fit in regular ATX cases as the chassis mount points for mATX should be present. But there are some older type matx boards that have trouble lining up with the backplate at the back of the case where all your cables plug in etc.

Allthough i doubt you'll run into this problem.

Would a gtx260 fit in a Atx Mid Case?
I believe it should, but every case is a little but different. I highly doubt it would fit into a MicroATX case, but any ATX should be fine.

If you're still questioning, look up the dimensions for both the case and the card.

The reason why I can't say for positive is that different manufacturers of the GPUs and cases all make them slightly different sizes, but all have a common measurement that it is near.
